Hoxton Shoreditch

Archer Hotel Capital

London, UK

The Hoxton Shoreditch is the original hotel in The Hoxton portfolio, opening in 2006 and helping to establish a neighbourhood-led model of hospitality rooted in its urban context. Located in the heart of Shoreditch, the building continues to act as a social anchor within a district shaped by change, reuse and reinvention.

Holland Harvey was appointed to support a strategic refurbishment of the hotel, acting on behalf of the asset owner, Archer Hotel Capital, and the contractor, County Contractors. The studio worked in close collaboration with AIME as Interior Designers, supporting their design vision alongside Ennismore while helping to align design intent, construction delivery and operational requirements.

Circularity was central to the refurbishment strategy. The project prioritised the retention, reworking and upgrading of existing elements, reducing material waste and embodied carbon while preserving the character of the original Hoxton. Opportunities for reuse were identified across guest rooms, public areas and back-of-house spaces, embedding circular thinking into the delivery process.

The refreshed interiors build on the hotel’s established identity, drawing from Shoreditch’s industrial heritage through a restrained palette of natural timbers, parquet flooring, terrazzo and textured finishes. New interventions were deliberately understated, allowing old and new to sit comfortably together and supporting long-term durability in a high-use hospitality environment.

Through its collaborative role with the client, contractor, AIME and Ennismore, Holland Harvey helped deliver a refurbishment that demonstrates how pragmatic circular design can future-proof an established hospitality asset while remaining rooted in its neighbourhood.
