AJ Retrofit & Reuse Awards

Back

Shelter From The Storm has been shortlisted in the Retrofit Revisited category at this year's AJ Retrofit & Reuse Awards.

Completed in 2019, Shelter from the Storm transformed a former supermarket into a year-round emergency shelter for people experiencing homelessness. Designed around dignity, warmth and a sense of home, the project reimagined an existing building through careful spatial planning and the thoughtful reuse of its structure.

Seven years on, the building continues to operate as intended, with its original spatial strategy and carefully considered material palette continuing to support guests, staff and volunteers every day. We're incredibly proud to see Shelter from the Storm recognised for demonstrating the value of thoughtful retrofit and human-centred design.
